Gregory John Bednarek

January 18, 1980 ~ November 9, 2020 (age 40)

Gregory John Bednarek, 40, of Port Deposit, Maryland passed away suddenly at 11:31 AM at UM Harford Memorial Hospital, in Havre de Grace, MD due to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy brought on by COVID-19.

He was born in Baltimore, MD, on January 18, 1980 and was the beloved husband of Courtney Lauren Bednarek; step-father of Elizabeth Grace Mumpower and Brian K. Mumpower, III., son of John and Aniela M. Bednarek, brother of Margaret Ann Jackson (nee Bednarek) and her husband Matthew Wayne Jackson, uncle of Zachary Wayne Jackson, Anne Marie Jackson and Nicholas Wayne Jackson, and is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family.

Gregory attended Holy Rosary Catholic School from grades K through 8 (volunteering as an altar server for many years), graduated from the Archbishop Curly High School in 1997, and subsequently graduated from the University of Maryland, University College, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2011.  He was a Corporal with the MDTA police (a 19-year veteran) and was assigned to the Hatem Bridge Detachment.

A newlywed and proud stepfather, Gregory’s love for his new family and children was profound, with the hope of one day expanding his family.  His other loves were his service with the police department, as he was one to always put others before himself, spending time outdoors in nature, fishing and hunting, and sports. Gregory played football and lacrosse in high school and he was a lifelong Orioles fan, and enjoyed Ravens football as well.

The family will receive visitors at Kaczorowski Funeral Home, P.A., 1201 Dundalk Avenue, Tuesday, November 24, from 4-8 PM. A public Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 408 S. Chester Street, Baltimore 21231, on Wednesday, November 25, at 11 AM. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 6515 Boston Street, Baltimore, MD 21222.

Note from the Bednarek Family:

We have been closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19, and after much consideration, with heavy hearts and much sadness, the family has decided to not host a post funeral luncheon after the interment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Our primary concern is to keep everyone safe and not put family and friends in harm’s way with COVID-19.

When it is safe to do so, we will be holding a celebration of life gathering for Gregory, at a location and time to be determined.

At this time we are only permitted to have 75 people in the building at a time per Gov. Larry Hogan's new guidelines. We ask that all visitors please enter, briefly pay their respects, and kindly leave to allow as many people as possible to visit the Bednarek family during this difficult time. A live stream will be posted for Funeral Mass for those who cannot or chose to not attend.
