Stanley "Stas" Sdanowich

On July 15, 2019 Stanley S. Sdanowich passed.

Stanley Sdanowich was born and raised in Canton by Anna and John  with his older brother Johnny.  His Dad was a retired  U.S. Army Tech Sgt.

He graduated from Mount St. Joseph College and joined the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1953.  He later enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955. Prior to being stationed in Munich,Germany, he married his wife Florence on March 17, 1956. His oldest daughter Anastasia was born there. While serving in Germany, he was a helicopter Crew Chief for the 110th Transportation Company out of Ober Schleissheim.  He extended a year and returned to the states and was discharged in April of 1959.  He later joined the U.S. Army Reserves and remained until his retirement serving a total of  42 years.  He also worked as a letter carrier for 35 years.

His youngest daughter, Stephanie, was born in 1962.

His cousin, James Tomalski,pipefitter, was instrumental in having Stan (also known as Stas’) volunteer to work on the Brown as a carpenter.  The first assignment was to help build the chapel.  He also made doors for the hospital room. Did carpentry work for the museums. Repainted the battle ribbon board for the ship and the Armed Guard. Rebuilt the focsil rooms, and operated the aft wench when mooring the ship and leaving port.

He was part of the crew that took the Brown to Toledo,Ohio for the rivets in 2000.This was a 52 day round trip.  He also worked on most of the cruises for 8 years. You can find him on the Brown almost every Wednesday and Saturday plus extra days for special projects.

Stan feels like he has another family with the Brown. He enjoys the wonderful comraderie with the men and he is very proud to be a volunteer on this great lady- The John W. Brown.

Stas is survived by his loving wife Florence (Kielczewski); loving father of Anastasia Maria Sdanowich and her husband Ronald Stevens, and Stephanie Sdanowich.  Dear grandfather of Neil Thomas Pitruzzella(USMC Ret.) and his wife Rebeca, Mark Maximillian Zubalik, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and the late Nichole Anne Zubalik.  Great grandfather of Cheyenne, Matthew, Gracelynn, Madyson, Ripken, and the late Chelsie.  Great great grandfather of Jackson.
Visitation at the Kaczorowski Funeral Home, P.A. 1201 Dundalk Avenue on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, 10 AM, at Holy Rosary Church.  Burial at Arlington National Cemetery to be scheduled, please check the website for updates.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Stanley’s name may be made to:  The John W. Brown Liberty project, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Wounded Warrior Project.

The interment will take place on October 3, 2019, 1 PM, at Arlington National Cemetery.  Anyone wishing to attend the interment is requested to meet at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center no later than 12:30PM.
