Olivia Stephens
Olivia Stephens, 26, passed away surrounded by family and friends. A fourth-year dental student at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Olivia was preparing for a profession that reflected her compassion and her desire to help others.
Olivia wanted to understand people as deeply as she wanted to care for them. Her studies in neuroscience brought together her interests in biology and psychology, and she contributed to research in the University of Maryland’s Child Development Lab. She also worked as a dental assistant, gaining experience that strengthened her determination to become a dentist.
During her clinical training, Olivia was known for her careful work and the kindness she showed her patients. She listened closely, took their concerns seriously, and helped those who were anxious feel at ease. Her mentors admired her curiosity and initiative. Her classmates knew her as someone who offered help without waiting to be asked. As she looked ahead to residency training, she had already made a difference to the people in her care.
The friendships Olivia formed in childhood remained a cherished part of her life. Those who grew up with her remember board games beneath a neighborhood tree, walks through the woods, and the comfort of having her beside them through difficult times. Even as they grew older and their lives took them in different directions, she continued to feel like family.
Olivia was an avid dog lover and enjoyed playing tennis. She was planning her future with her boyfriend, Jarrod Bohn, with so much still to look forward to. Her family and friends will hold close the time they shared with her, from childhood adventures to the everyday conversations and moments together that now mean so much.
Olivia is survived by her father, Geoffrey Stephens; her mother, Ewa Jankowska; her boyfriend, Jarrod Bohn; and her extended family. She will also be deeply missed by her many friends, classmates, mentors, and patients.
Her family will miss her every day and will carry her memory with love.
May she rest in peace.
