Nancy Jane Johnson

Nancy Jane Johnson, passed away on September 2, 2026, at John’s Hopkins Bayview Hospital. She was born on September 13, 1948, in Baltimore, and will be remembered with deep love for the way she made people feel seen, heard, and valued.

To those who knew her as Aunt Nancy, she was someone who believed in you even when you struggled to believe in yourself. She loved hearing people’s stories and wanted to know what they were doing, how they were doing it, and whether it brought them happiness. She gave of herself generously. Even when she did not have much, she shared everything she could, often through thoughtful Christmas ornaments or small tokens chosen with care because they reflected something she knew a loved one treasured.

Nancy had a remarkable memory and an extraordinary gift for keeping track of the details that mattered. She was organized, resourceful, and determined; if there was a way forward, she found it. She especially loved learning to cook, exploring recipes, and enjoying food from many places and traditions. Her life brought more hardships than many are asked to bear, yet she met them with resilience again and again. In doing so, she also kept the memories of others alive, and that same loving remembrance will now continue in her honor.

She is survived by a family and circle of loved ones who meant so much to her. Among them are  her grandson Kaliq Johnson, and granddaughter Ashley Dillingham-Harris; her niece Sammi Turner (the daughter she never had) and her longtime best friend, Theresa Just. She is also lovingly remembered by Brittney, Bradley, Heaven, and Laura, whose presence played a pivotal role in her life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her sons, Melvin Johnson, known as Jay, and William Johnson, known as Danny; by her brother, William Duncan; and by her granddaughter, Cienna Hoyt.

Nancy’s life was cherished not because she asked for attention for herself, but because she listened so carefully to what mattered to others. She leaves behind a memory of steadfast love, thoughtful generosity, and quiet strength. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.
