Michael Leslie Cooper, a dedicated professional in the construction and drywall finishing industry, passed away on May 22, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on July 24, 1944, in Buckingham, England, Michael led a life marked by resilience, skill, and an enduring commitment to his family and passions.
Michael’s career as a knowledgeable drywall finisher in new construction allowed him to display his meticulous attention to detail and work ethic. His expertise extended beyond his profession to a wide range of interests, including fishing, model building, and ham radio operations—hobbies through which he found both challenge and enjoyment. Notably, Michael was proud to have earned his certificate as an amateur radio operator and celebrated the achievement of winning a national fishing tournament, accomplishments that underscored his dedication and skill.
His independent spirit was evident throughout his life; he strove resolutely to care for himself with the help of his daughter Amanda Hughes regardless of the physical challenges he faced, demonstrating a strength and determination that inspired those around him. Michael served his country with honor from 1968 until 1974 as a communications expert during the Korean War while enlisted in the United States Army. This chapter of his life showcased his technical proficiency and commitment to service.
Michael is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, a proud and caring father, and a wonderful grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Stephanie M. Cooper. He leaves behind his daughter Amanda Hughes, his daughter Victoria Gizzi, his son Steven Cooper, and grandchildren Allison Hughes, Blake Hughes, and Lilly Cooper, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and dedication.
His death was the result of complications from lung cancer, a battle he faced with the same tenacity and independence that characterized his life. Michael Leslie Cooper’s memory endures in the hearts of his family and in the many lives he touched through his work, his service, and his passions.
