Mary Catherine Baker (nee Smith)

Mary Catherine Baker, born on June 26, 1932, in Baltimore, MD, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2026, in Anne Arundel County, MD. Known affectionately by her maiden name, Mary Catherine Smith, she lived a life devoted to family, embodying compassion and generosity in every aspect of her being.

Throughout her life, Mary took immense pride in caring for her parents, Francis and Margaret Smith, and her daughter, Jacqueline Moran, along with supporting other family members whenever they needed assistance. Her nurturing spirit was the cornerstone of her family, and her commitment to them was unwavering.

Mary was known for her simple yet fulfilling lifestyle. She found joy in cherished memories created with her mother and the ladies from church during bus trips, along with the camaraderie experienced at Bingo nights and lively Sunday family gatherings that revolved around supporting the Orioles and Colts. These moments were a testament to her love for family and community, and she carried them in her heart.

Always pleasant and helpful, Mary was not only generous with her time but also remembered birthdays and holidays with thoughtful trinkets and small cash presents that brought joy to those she loved. Her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone around her.

She proudly cherished her grandsons and her great-grandson, Charles (Chaz) Moran III, who were undoubtedly among her proudest accomplishments. Mary was blessed with a close-knit family, as she is survived by her sister, Patricia Schafer, various nephews and nieces, and her beloved great-grandson.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Margaret Smith; her daughter, Jacqueline Moran; her grandsons, Charles Moran, Jr., and Terry Moran; her brothers, Francis Smith, Jr. and Joseph Smith; and her sister, June Fink. Each of these individuals played significant roles in her life and are fondly remembered.

As we reflect on Mary Catherine Baker's life, we celebrate a woman whose devotion to family and friends, along with her kindness, will remain a cherished legacy. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts and memories of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A private family burial will be held in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
