Denise Ann Higley, affectionately known as Dee, was born on January 11, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland. She passed away peacefully in Glen Arm, Maryland, on March 4 2026, surrounded by her beloved family after a brief illness.
Denise graduated from Patterson High School in 1970 and went on to a career with the Johns Hopkins Division of Rheumatology. She dedicated much of her life to caring for her loved ones, embodying a sweet, kind, and sensitive nature that made her cherished by all who knew her.
Denise found great joy in life's simpler pleasures, particularly enjoying the Winter Olympics, especially figure skating, the Peanuts cartoon, and sharing coffee and Chick-fil-A moments with family and friends. Her love for animals was profound (especially dogs), and she is remembered for her patience and kind heart.
As a devoted mother and grandmother, Denise's proudest accomplishments include her role as a grandmother and having two sons who serve in the Baltimore City Fire Department. She leaves behind her mother, Dorothy Balcerowicz; her sister, Lynette Brzuchalski; her two sons, Justin Higley and Kyle Higley; her daughter-in-law, Kate Higley; her daughter-in-law, Amy Higley; and her grandchildren, Ryan, Parker, Vivienne, and Delaney Higley, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Balcerowicz, and her husband, Stephen P. Higley. Denise's legacy of love and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
